
Joan Hogan is an Instructor and Student Teaching Coordinator in the Department of Counseling and Special Education. She has a B.A. in Teaching Students with Emotional Impairments and a M.A. in Teaching Students with Cognitive Impairments from CMU.
Joan coordinates, places and supervises the Special Education student teachers in area school districts throughout Michigan. She enjoys working closely with teachers, parents, administrators, and paraprofessionals in the special education field. She also teaches courses focusing on inclusion and teaching methods.
Before coming to CMU, Joan was a Special Education teacher for 31 years for Mt. Pleasant Public Schools. She started the Community Based Education program in Mt. Pleasant which became a model program for the state of Michigan. Joan is an active community member who donates her time and energy to students and families with special needs. She is dedicated to providing her university students with experiences to become involved and support families with special needs in our community.
